The cooked Ayu. I wasn’t so used to eating whole animals before but I’m getting more used to it. Plus it was pretty delicious. And if you order the fish at a restaurant a single fish is about $15 to $20, and they’re pretty small.Awesome experience!

Gone’ fishin’.Ayu-tsuri, is fishing just for a fishing called “Ayu.”This type of fishing is very hard (case in point: I did not catch anything)It requires the bait of another Ayu fish. The reason: Ayu are very territorial, and will chase other Ayu out of their patch of rocks (to protect their food supply). So on the end of the line, there is one hook with the bait fish, and another hook trailing behind for the fish you catch. The poles are extremely long and require a lot of strength to hold for a while. My host dad is in a club of gents who also do this fishing. They are super cool and friendly.

A new Japanese friend, Takashi, and the deer of Nara. They will gang up on you and they will eat your maps/ tug on your clothes too.

Went to Nara! Nara is famous for its large Buddha statue and for its deer! They’re everywhere, and you can feed them, but you can be vicious. They can also be quite romantic <3 (Please note the cracker I’m giving to the deer)

Update: Having a wonderful time!

I decided to take the password protect off- I figure no one will be stalking me in Japan.

I’m having a great time, and looking forward to the weekend. Nara tomorrow and Hyogo on Sunday! We’ll be fishing and barbecuing and playing in the river! :-)

Next week we are going to Hiroshima, and then moving to the apartments, so this is my last week with my host family. :-(

I went to the public baths twice with my mom this week. Feeling so fresh! They are all so wonderful. I’m really going to miss them. My host dad works near our campus, so I had lunch with him and one of my classmates last week. Sometimes we commute together and so he has met most of the people in my class actually!

I’m so happy to be making Japanese friends. My peer tutor Aya is the best! She’s always fun and extremely sweet. I’m so lucky. We’re going to hang out this weekend, and hopefully I’ll spend a weekend at her house in July.

That’s it for now- gotta do my homework today because I’ll be busy running around this weekend! Oh well for Friday night! ;-P
